Teaching Students with Autism
About Rosalie
I have spent 11 years teaching autistic children. I became interested in autism as I found that differences made each child so unique, even though they shared the same diagnosis. At the autism specific school I taught at, we had an intensive program of communication skills and social skills, embedded in our class program of academic subects and in each child's specific program. After 4 years, the children either transitioned to a mainstream school or moved on to a Special setting.
I have also completed a Graduate Diploma in Teaching Students With Autism Spectrum Disorder. My major focus of study in my second year was Floortime Play Therapy and how it can be used successfully to develop social and communication skills.
I have enjoyed my teaching and learning experiences in autism and find that there is always something interesting to learn and read about. I want to share my ideas and experiences with other teachers and provide support in their early years in an autistic setting.
