ABOUT
Who I am
After many years of teaching, I am now blogging and working as a casual teacher. I have worked, for the past 11 years with autistic students and I have many fond memories of my students. I would like to help develop a greater understanding of autism within the community and I have a website www.theautismteachingblog.com dedicated to teachers new to autism.
Why I do this
As a teacher, I found it difficult to find appropriate products and, as a staff, we had to spend many hours after school and at home making many of the products we used to teach the students. We often purchased products privately as students with autism have individual needs and schools' budgets are very constraining . A big problem was the cost of items for students with special needs, which were prohibitive for schools and teachers when we tried to purchase them from many general sites or at workshops for autism. CD's. videos, books and toys were very expensive items, if they focused on autism.
Parents would also ask for advice as they wanted to buy products for their child. They often asked for advice about the range of therapeutic goods available. I would have no hesitation in recommending products from National Autism Resources.Com.
What I can do for you
I have decided to provide a one stop shop so anyone can comfortably browse and not feel pressured to buy high priced good when visiting workshops, boutique niche shops and stalls and fairs. School retailers were also very high priced.
The Autism Shop is a one stop shop, catering for all needs. It is great for parents, teachers and administrators. the prices are very reasonable and there is a wide range of good quality products. The shop also caters for school settings and has larger priced items for setting up sensory rooms, professional reading resources, play rooms, Speech Therapy and OT rooms within a school.
